Lets get obese

Obesity, you may think that it just means that you are fat. Well, it doesn't. It is a disease. You heard me right: A DISEASE. A disease that has a negative effect on your health, in some cases permanently. It may even lead to death.

Obesity in scientific terms means increase in body mass.
The country with most obese people is Australia. The country second on the list is United States. Do you want to know why they are the most obese countries in the world. Because of FAST FOOD restaurants and food containing high amounts of FAT and less work activity.

Technology though it is making our lives easier, it is also decreasing our life span. How do you ask?
Well, the things we used to do physically are now being done by computers and robots. At least when we did things physically our health was good. We burned calories, which kept us in shape.
Now, we gain more amount of calories then we need and don't lose them because of the technology that has made our livcs faster but also shorter.

I am not saying that I hate technology, I love it. But use it in moderate terms. Don't sit in front of a computer for hours and hours racing a virtual bike, when you could be having thousand times more fun doing the real thing and staying in shape at the same time. Killing two birds with one stone.

Data from cdc.gov explains that in the past years the obesity percentage among adult men has been increasing constantly. In 2003-2004 it was 33.2% and from 2005-2006 it increased to 35.3%. That's quite an increase if you ask me.
However, the good news is that among children the obesity percentage has remained the same through 2003-2006: 16.3%. Well, they won't be kids forever so, when the males grow up and don't control themselves they will soon fall under the 35.3% or maybe higher and at a risk of dying at an early age.

Cell phones and bees

Would you be willing to give up your cell phone in order to save an important species of our world???
This particular species are the bees. That's right bees. Who would have thought?? When I heard it I was amazed.
What really happening is that the signal of the cell phones are interfering with the signal of the bees that they use to get back to their hive. The hive where they drop of their honey and bears come chasing to get it.

So, the bees who cannot make it back to the hive mostly die in the wilderness.
The problem I see with this is that the bees die out, because of human errors, and we too end up paying by shelling out hundreds of bucks for honey.
You really want to pay hundreds of dollars for just ounces of honey, considering the current economy. I sure as heck don't.
Another thing you might forget is that bees are needed to pollinate crops around the world. That's right. I don't even have to say a thing further, you should know by now what that means.

According to scienceagoo bees are being affected by the telephones and 200 - 300 cycles/second oscillations that dancing bees produce through honeycomb may be interrupted by a resonance effect caused by the telephone handsets.

That means shelling out even more bucks for our daily nutrition. I want to live healthy, but just living would be hard when prices of crops are going to skyrocket.

So, either come up with a better way to use cell phones or stop using them (which will be impossible).

Out of this world 2

In the previous topic we discussed about life on Mars or any other planet. How does the Saturn's moon Titan sound??? That's right, the moon Titan. Scientists at NASA have found a liquid lake there, but not of water.

organic molecules (i.e., those containing carbon, not necessarily
molecules in living organisms) can be formed.  Indeed, there has been
speculation that Titan's atmosphere resembles that of Earth some 4

ultraviolet light from the Sun or from charged particle impacts on the
upper atmosphere.  Unfortunately, Titan's great distance from the Sun
means that the surface temperature is so low that liquid water is
probably not present globally.  Since we believe that liquid water is
probably necessary for the emergence of life, Titan is unlikely to
harbor any life.  The impact of comets or asteroids on Titan may,
however, warm the surface enough that any water ice could melt.  Such
"impact pools" could persist for as long as 1 thousand years,
potentially allowing life-like chemical reactions to occur.

Now after reading this again you should hopefully hope that there is life outside this
planet of ours. This small planet, compared to other planets.

Out of this world

Who here believes that there is life beyond our world????
I certainly do. There is no way that we are the only ones in this universe that exist.
Or maybe there used to be life before and we are the end result of an experiment gone wrong.
You know what they say "A lot of things are found unknowingly or without trying to". If you haven't heard that before it's cause I just made it up. Not the point.

Well we can say now that at least there used to be life or is developing because scientists at NASA have found ice and forms of bacteria on Mars.

If you are not a believer by now, I don't know what to say. Hopefully, we will be able to live there in coming decades because you know and I know that the population in this world is off the charts. I don't think the there is enough land on this planet for another billion people. Also, consider the fact that more people are being born every second then there are dying.

I ain't saying to kill people, but at least have controlled births or find another planet where we can live.

Car that runs on water

Well, Japan as we already knew is the most advanced country in the world in technology but now they have proved it by developing the car that runs on water. Well, not water but any LIQUID. That's right ANY LIQUID, even tea, sodas, sea water etc...

They have only developed a prototype so far but it is supposed to go into mass production within a few months. Can you imagine it? They are using a WES- Water Energy System- to separate the Hydrogen, H, from the Oxygen, O. The company that has developed the technology is Genepax.

Given the current market we can use anything to help us save money on gas. So I'd say that this is the perfect technology that will save us probably thousands per year.

If you are not amazed by now or at least happy about the result then well, I don't know what to say. I admit the car is not so attractive but hey, the technology behind it is the most important concept. This car is hopefully going to revolutionize the world we know or at least the car industry. The car is going to release environment friendly gas, not smoke or carbon. This technology is way way way better than ethanol. Well, at least corn ethanol which takes the same amount of petroleum to make as it releases.

How to help poverty

Poverty does not necessarily mean poor health and starvation. It also leads to a number of chain effects which hampers the society and even the world.

The Benefits Of Helping Others:

-Better controlled society
-Less pollution
-Less AIDS
-Reduction in crime activities
-More educated individuals
And much more!

Think of it like this. Everytime you are eating delicious food in your cozy apartmant. Think of the people who are starving in the COLD COLD NIGHT! With no shelter, no warm clothes. How does it feel? Bad i believe, but u'll soon ignore it as soon as you realize it. Why? Thats because most people think that they can't be of any help or that the people in poverty is trapped by their unforsaken fate. DON'T BE MISGUIDED! Fate can be changed! If you help save life, you have not wasted your time. You have helped become a good caring decent human being (Not that i'm saying that those who help arn't a decent human being) But still. It is better to unify the world as a whole, then just seperate yourself and others in two major ranks - RICH CLASS AND POOR CLASS. We know that the main reason for that is the rising levels of corruption. Although we may not be able to reduce corruption level. We will DEFINITELY be able to help people in poverty earn a better living and secure the future of the next generations, so they wont have to suffer through the same misery that their ancestors have been through.

The Ozone Layer

The Ozone Layer (with a hole in it)
The picture you see above is of the ozone layer. Do you see the hole in it?
It means that area cannot protect us from the Ultra Violet or UV rays. UV rays are the dangerous rays produced by the sun and can cause skin cancer when inflicted upon a human skin.
What do you think is the reason this hole showed up?
Well, at first the coolants in our refrigerators were made of the chemical chlorofluorocarbons or CFC's.
When finally there was a hole in the ozone layer and everyone realized about that dangers of CFC's the government and the scientists worked together to finish the CFC's altogether.
They were successful but unfortunately that hole in the ozone layer is still not fixed.
The ozone layer is composed of oxygen, more specifically O3. Meaning 3 atoms of oxygen.
It takes a really long time to fix the ozone, it still may take decades to fix that hole in the ozone layer.
The hole can be fixed sooner if there were not contaminants blocking the O3 to get to the ozone layer. These contaminants are obviously are from the pollution caused by coal, petroleum and other various items that are destroying the Mother Earth.

WHAT IS WRONG HERE?

Pollution over Los Angeles
Read the title of this blog. It is "US & The MOTHER EARTH". What is wrong with the phrase?
*Hint- It's a grammatical error. At least I think it is.
Well the error is that "The" does not fit in with "MOTHER EARTH", it does not sound right, does it?
It is the same with the picture above. The pollution you see is real, it is not photo shopped.
As you can notice, you cannot see the buildings clearly, as you can guess by now what it is that is blocking the clarity.
That's right! Pollution. That is smoke covering L.A. at any given day. Boy! sucks to be the one breathing in that crap.
Basic science tells us that the more smoke there is, the harder it is for people to breathe. So, I wouldn't be surprised if in a few decades, the people of L.A. mutate to adapt to the smoke and become alien to us and we end up killing them, because they are different.
What do you think we can do to clean up this mess before it worsens?
Well, honestly I think there is at least one good thing that came out of this fuel crisis, its that more people are raving about alternative fuel and want it now.
Let us hope that our government, that is fueled by oil, can come to their senses and fund soon for alternative fuel source, which i bet there is.

Poverty

Okay. So what is Poverty?


Poverty is defined is having very few or little money, as well as personal possessions. Poverty deprives an individual or groups of individuals from money, food, shelter, clothes, health care and education. It deprives them of the right to live like you and I. It deprives them of their humanity, and kills them along with it.

Poverty is not a disease. It's a state of being. You cannot catch it from merely shaking hands with a person who is poor. It is much more than just that. A person struggling through poverty does not get to choose their way of life. Heard the saying, "Beggars can't be choosers" ? Well, it's a fact. They must go on with whatever they get. It's a sad and harsh truth. They don't get to choose what they get to eat. That is, if they're lucky to get anything at all. Often it is necessary to rummage through trash or wait for more capable people to throw away their scraps. Many individuals work fields or other odd jobs such as collecting trash and such for a pay much lower than minimum wage! This is often just a couple of cents for a day's work! Imagine! Some work in hopes of getting paid, enlightened by promises that go on to never being kept.

It isn't a myth, folks. Just because you don't see it doesn't mean it doesn't exist. It exists in great numbers around the world. With hunger running rampid and diseases left untreated, more and more people die everyday because of poverty. In fact, there isn't a place in the world where poverty hasn't claimed someone as their victim. Often mistaken to be a thing of just third world and other under-developed countries, poverty occurs even here in North America. For example, look outside the window on the downtown streets. What do you see? Homelessness is also a form of poverty.

What can you do? There's a lot. You can join an organization, form a club, or join an existing one. You don't have to help someone half way around the world. You can help someone right here at home. Raise funds to feed and clothe and shelter a cold and helpless soul. Your own soul will benefit from the deed. Other ways you can help? Raise money and send it to places that need it most through charity organizations and donation drives. Even giving to the Salvation Army or Good Will helps. Just round up the things around your home that you don't need or have stopped using and drop it off to a nearby donation drop off. It won't hurt you, will it?

As long as money exists, so will poverty. But ironically enough the same green that makes poverty can rid of it.

Cancer Awareness

Cancer is a class of diseases in which a group of cells display the traits of uncontrolled growth invasion, and sometimes metastasis (spread to other locations in the body via lymph or blood). These three malignant properties of cancers differentiate them from benign tumors, which are self-limited, do not invade or metastasize. Most cancers form a tumor but some, like leukemia, do not.

Cancer may affect people at all ages, even fetuses, but risk for the more common varieties tends to increase with age. Cancer causes about 13% of all deaths. According to the American Cancer Society, 7.6 million people died from cancer in the world during 2007. Apart from humans, forms of cancer may affect other animals and plants.

Nearly all cancers are caused by abnormalities in the genetic material of the transformed cells. These abnormalities may be due to the effects of carcinogens, such as tobacco smoke, radiation, chemicals, or infectious agents. Other cancer-promoting genetic abnormalities may be randomly acquired through errors in DNA replication, or are inherited, and thus present in all cells from birth. Complex interactions between carcinogens and the host genome may explain why only some develop cancer after exposure to a known carcinogen. New aspects of the genetics of cancer pathogenesis, such as DNA methylation, and microRNAs are increasingly being recognized as important.

Genetic abnormalities found in cancer typically affect two general classes of genes. Cancer-promoting oncogenes are often activated in cancer cells, giving those cells new properties, such as hyperactive growth and division, protection against programmed cell death, loss of respect for normal tissue boundaries, and the ability to become established in diverse tissue environments. Tumor suppressor genes are often inactivated in cancer cells, resulting in the loss of normal functions in those cells, such as accurate DNA replication, control over the cell cycle, orientation and adhesion within tissues, and interaction with protective cells of the immune system.

Cancer is usually classified according to the tissue from which the cancerous cells originate, the primary tumor, as well as the normal cell type they most resemble. These are location and histology, respectively. A definitive diagnosis usually requires the histologic examination of a tissue biopsy specimen by a pathologist, although the initial indication of malignancy can be symptoms or radiographic imaging abnormalities. Most cancers can be treated and some cured, depending on the specific type, location, and stage. Once diagnosed, cancer is usually treated with a combination of surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. As research develops, treatments are becoming more specific for different varieties of cancer. There has been significant progress in the development of targeted therapy drugs that act specifically on detectable molecular abnormalities in certain tumors, and which minimize damage to normal cells. The prognosis of cancer patients is most influenced by the type of cancer, as well as the stage, or extent of the disease. In addition, histologic grading and the presence of specific molecular markers can also be useful in establishing prognosis, as well as in determining individual treatments.
